Today marks the start of October! This month is a special one as October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. Several Chicago area restaurants are having specials with a part of the proceeds benefiting breast cancer research! Read on to find out the details!
Oktoberfest Celebration and “Pink” Flatbread at Wickets
Wickets is bringing the festive German celebration of Oktoberfest to life this month! Chef George Garcia is celebrating all things beer and Bavarian and has crafted a hearty menu to showcase unique and festive dishes like German potato salad, sauerkraut and more. Behind the bar, Wickets will be tapping Sam Adams Vienna Lager style beer for a taste of the Munich festival right in Schaumburg. The Oktoberfest menu includes: Wild Mushroom Crostinis (trio of wild mushroom crostinis in a sherry cream sauce), Beer Braised Bratwurst (served on a roll with sauerkraut and a side of German potato salad), Pork Loin (cider glazed pork loin served with apples, onions and sauerkraut) and Sam Adams Boston Lager ($4). The menu will be available from September 30th through October 6th for lunch and dinner. Menu items range from $4 to $17. Reservations are not required and complimentary parking is available.
Wickets is also kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October with good food and sports! During the month of October, the restaurant will offer a ‘pink’ flatbread ($9) hand-formed by Chef Garcia, topped with roasted tomatoes, ricotta cheese and basil. A portion of the proceeds from these brick oven pizzas will benefit the Palatine-based breast cancer education organization, Wellness Place. In addition, while the NFL is honoring the month with pink uniforms, Wickets will be offering a ‘pink’ raffle during each Chicago Bears game on October 6, 10 and 20. Guests at the restaurant those three days will receive a raffle ticket for each drink purchased for a chance to win various pink Bears apparel, footballs and more! Guests can ‘eat like a horse’ as they choose from the six crispy, brick oven flatbreads. Flatbreads include favorites like Bacon with Grilled Onions, Tomato and fresh Basil or Papaya, Brie and Caramelized Red Onion. The complimentary flatbreads are available any time of day. American Junkie’s “Proud to Be an American” Menu
American Junkie invites diners across Chicago this Labor Day weekend to feast their way through the long holiday weekend while giving back to a foundation that provides support for individuals with paralysis and helps prevent spinal cord injuries! Executive Chef Kendal Duque has crafted an all-American three-course prix fixe “Proud to Be an American” menu featuring some of the country’s most beloved eats. Included in the menu, guests can sip on their choice of selected beverages from American’s Junkie popular specialty cocktails to a variety of American draft beer. $5 from every “Proud to Be an American” menu ordered through Labor Day Weekend will be donated back to the Darrell Gwynn Foundation. This organization helps raise awareness and supports research for a cure to those affected with spinal cord injuries and paralysis.
The menu includes dishes like Truffled Deviled Eggs, Wild Boar Dog, Duque Burger, Half Rack of Ribs, Apple Pie and more! National Chicken Wing Day at Bakersfield
Bakersfield is celebrating National Chicken Wing Day! Through July 31st, the restaurant will feature their new smoked buffalo wings with housemade bleu cheese dip, paired with an Allagash white draft brew for just $10! Executive Chef Brian Wright’s wings are made with FreeBird chicken, sourced from Bakersfield’s sister-concept, Standard Market. They are brined for 24 hours, seasoned with housemade buffalo spice, smoked over hickory and cedar, then coated with a rice flour batter and flash fried until crispy. The wings are given a second dusting of buffalo spice and are served with celery, hot sauce and house made bleu cheese dip. The menu includes “fresh from the garden” herbs grown in Chef’s organic garden on the patio. Two Brothers brand ambassadors will be on hand to discuss the brewery’s attributes and brewing process. The menu includes items like Deviled Eggs, Beer Battered Asparagus, Outlaw Wedge Salad, Smoked Grilled Chicken and Side Kick & Passion Fruit Infused Sabayon.
